LIVE ‘Major disruption’ to trains near Huddersfield after ‘incident’ in Dewsbury area

Train services between Leeds and Huddersfield are currently affected by “major disruption” following an incident near Dewsbury.

National Rail is reporting that services between Leeds and Wakefield and Huddersfield and Brighouse have been affected. The incident was reported early this morning. All train lines are now blocked between Huddersfield and Dewsbury.




National Rail said: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident in the Dewsbury area. While they carry out their work, all lines are closed in the area.

“This is affecting trains between Leeds and Huddersfield/Brighouse, and between Wakefield Kirkgate and Brighouse.

“Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted where possible.”

Major disruptions are expected until 2pm.

All lines have been reopened

National Rail said all lines have now reopened.

Police on scene

Police, along with other emergency services professionals, are at the scene of the incident.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said British Transport Police were dealing with the incident.

BTP has been contacted for comment.

A line has been reopened

The Leeds line towards Huddersfield/Brighouse has reopened, allowing trains to run in that direction only, according to National Rail.

Northern customer support

Customers in the North received the following advice:

Trains cannot run between Leeds and Manchester Victoria via Dewsbury/Brighouse.

Trains running between Leeds and Manchester Victoria via Bradford Interchange are no affected. Customers are advised to travel via Bradford Interchange where possible.

Customers can also use the following alternative routes from the North:

  • Leeds and Chester

  • York and Blackpool North

Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption.

Affected routes

The following routes are affected, according to National Rail:

  • Grand Central between Bradford Interchange and London Kings Cross
  • North between Leeds and Wigan Wallgate
  • TransPennine Express between Hull and Manchester Piccadilly, between Saltburn and Manchester Airport, and also between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street

Incident at Mirfield

TPE posted a Tweet on X about the incident and said:

Due to emergency services dealing with an incident in Mirfield, services between Huddersfield and Leeds are currently disrupted.

Road transport has been requested to Huddersfield, Leeds and York.
