Leeds United player set to complete permanent exit on Sunday after three years at Elland Road

Leeds United player set to complete permanent exit on Sunday after three years at Elland Road

Leeds United have been busy getting their act together and offloading players ahead of bringing in new signings this summer, and another is set to leave on a permanent basis today.

We’ve already seen Marc Roca turn his loan spell at Real Betis into a permanent transfer for around £4m. Archie Gray was the only major sale the club needed to make, joining Tottenham in a deal worth £40m.

The move to Spurs allowed Leeds to negotiate a permanent return for Joe Rodon, costing a quarter of the fee that saw Gray move elsewhere. Jamie Shackleton left for free, joining Sheffield United.

It sees Shackleton face Leeds on October 19 at Elland Road. Liam Cooper, Ian Poveda and Cody Drameh are now free agents after their contracts expired last week. Many more sales are expected this summer.

Leeds player set to leave permanently on Sunday after three years

Diego Llorente is set to join Roca at Betis, while Charlie Cresswell’s move to Toulouse is back on track. Junior Firpo’s contract is due to end in 12 months and he is ‘expected’ to leave the club before the deadline.

Even Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford have clubs chasing them. But another permanent exit is now expected in the form of 23-year-old goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson after three years at Elland Road.

The Norwegian goalkeeper returned to Leeds in the summer of 2021 for £1m and has managed just four appearances since. Last season, he featured three times as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper under Daniel Farke.

Reports emerged on Saturday that Klaesson is heading to Poland

Having spent the season behind Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow, Klaesson must have realised that even after relegation from the Premier League, he will not become the club’s first-choice centre-back.

Indeed, Adam Pope reported that Klaesson was closing in on a permanent move to Polish side Raków Częstochowa. Now, Norwegian website Nettavisen has spotted that Klaesson’s departure is set to be announced on Sunday.

A fee has been agreed as Klaesson has one year remaining on his contract. Today, medical and personal terms need to be agreed, but there do not appear to be any issues and a deal will be announced today.
