Details of Liverpool’s new Anthony Gordon bid REVEALED as Reds are not giving up on Newcastle star

Liverpool are planning to approach Newcastle United with a SECOND bid for England winger Anthony Gordon after having their initial interest rejected.

That’s according to a new report from Football Insider, which claims the Magpies are prepared to enter talks over a deal worth an initial £70m.

It was reported last week that Newcastle would seek a total package worth £100million for the 23-year-old, who remains on international duty with the Three Lions at Euro 2024.

The former Everton star is under contract at St. James’ Park until 2026, having completed a £45m transfer from the Toffees in January 2023.

Gordon quickly became a talisman for Newcastle, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 35 Premier League games last season.

His performances have piqued the interest of the Reds, who were offered the opportunity to bring the winger back to Anfield a few weeks ago.

Newcastle PSR fears eased

The striker was a Liverpool player until he was 11, when he was released, but built a solid career at Everton before moving to the North East.

Newcastle’s concerns over profit rules and sustainability led them to consider selling Gordon, one of the club’s most valuable assets, but their insistence on a high fee and the inclusion of Jarell Quansah in the deal ultimately scuppered negotiations with Liverpool.

The club were also able to alleviate financial concerns by selling Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest, netting just under £70m, meaning the need to sell Gordon, Bruno Guimaeaes and Alexander Isak has been reduced for now.

Gordon’s head turned

However, the club fear Gordon has strayed from Liverpool’s interest and resolving his future will be one of the first tasks of new sporting director Paul Mitchell.

The Reds could look to strike a deal with Gordon this summer to bolster their wide receiver options.

Luis Diaz could well be sold amid rumours of interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona and if that happens, the Reds need a new left winger.

Newcastle do not want to lose Gordon and Eddie Howe is planning to have him available for next season, but a cash deal starting at £70m could persuade the club’s decision-makers to do the deal.
