Manchester United midfielder Donny vsn De Beek joins Girona

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is set to complete a permanent move to La Liga club Girona. The Dutch international, who joined United in a £35million move from Ajax in September 2020, has struggled to secure a regular place in the team. After loan spells at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt, Van de Beek is set to leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis for Girona.

According to Relovo, Girona will pay an initial fee of €500,000 (£423,000), with potential add-ons that could take the total to €4-5 million. Manchester United will retain a significant sell-on clause, but it is much lower than the £35 million United paid for his services to Ajax. The move does, however, offer Van de Beek a chance to revive his career, with Girona also competing in the Champions League next season.

Van de Beek, who made his debut for Ajax aged 18, was instrumental in their 2018-19 Champions League campaign, attracting interest from big clubs including Real Madrid. Despite his high-profile move to Manchester United, he made just over 60 appearances and failed to secure a permanent place in the squad. Van de Beek spent last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga but was not called up for the current European Championship by the Dutch national team.

For Manchester United fans, Van de Beek’s departure is bittersweet. Many had high hopes for the midfielder, expecting him to replicate his Ajax form at Old Trafford. However, his time at United has been marred by limited opportunities and unfortunate injuries. As he moves to Girona, fans will be watching closely, hoping he can rediscover his best form and wishing him well in his new chapter. In the meantime, Girona supporters are excited at the prospect of seeing a player of Van de Beek’s calibre pull on their colours, anticipating his contribution to their Champions League and La Liga campaign.
