Baby swan ‘attacked by dog’ in Glasgow park rushed to sanctuary for treatment

Baby swan ‘attacked by dog’ in Glasgow park rushed to sanctuary for treatment

A baby swan in one of Glasgow’s parks was rushed to a sanctuary after being attacked by a dog yesterday, Tuesday, May 13.

The incident occurred at around 9am in Alexandra Park in the city’s east end, leaving the swan bloodied after it was reportedly bitten. A photo of the poor bird posted on social media shows the wound on its front.

Thankfully, a member of the public took the animal to Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue for life-saving treatment. The bird is believed to still be alive, however, it will not be returned to the park as it is unlikely to be accepted by its parents.

“Even if he recovers, the length of treatment coupled with his growth rate means he will not be accepted back by his parents and will be raised in captivity.”

The individual later added: “Update just now on the swan from yesterday. He’s still alive and seems fine, but we can’t rule out internal injuries yet. Fingers crossed.”
