For a city that was once named one of the ‘worst’ places to live in the country, Birmingham certainly has some hidden gems. Whether it’s our incredible architecture, beautiful canals or incredibly creative independent food scene, we Brummies know that Birmingham is full of great places to live.

But where’s the best? It’s a question that always sparks debate, but lifestyle website Muddy Stilettos has given us their answers, as voted on by their readers.




Of the site’s 260 best places to live, no fewer than six entries are right here in Birmingham. Here are the six locations that made the cut – is yours on the list?

King’s Heath

Kings Heath, located just south of the city centre, is a lively suburb. Known for its charming high street lined with independent shops, cosy cafes and bustling market scene, Kings Heath has become a favourite amongst families looking to settle in the city.

A highlight has to be York Road and its many al fresco bars and restaurants. Nearby attractions include Moseley Bog and Highbury Park and King’s Heath Farmer’s Market.

Muddy Stilettos said of the area: “This up-and-coming Brummy suburb is known for its vibrant atmosphere, independent shops and restaurants, bustling high street and diverse community – what’s not to like?”
