Important fortnight could give Newcastle a £25m transfer boost to fund the signing of a big player

Important fortnight could give Newcastle a £25m transfer boost to fund the signing of a big player

Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron’s future is set to come under scrutiny over the next two weeks amid transfer interest from the Paraguayan international.

Chronicle Live understands that the 30-year-old is in talks with his agent Daniel Campos over his next steps, amid talks with an unnamed Saudi club.

Almiron has two years remaining on his current deal at St James’ Park, but Newcastle are believed to view signing a new right-winger as a transfer priority this summer.

With Jacob Murphy also at the club, United are expected to look to cash in on Almiron, who almost joined Al-Shabab in the January transfer window.

Since arriving from Atlanta United in January 2019, Almiron has established himself as a fan favourite at St James’ Park, but as Newcastle look to move onto the next stage of their progression, there is an acceptance that players will have to be sacrificed to fund big-money transfers.

The likes of Jarrod Bowen and Federico Chiesa have been linked with moves to Newcastle this summer, and Almiron’s future looks increasingly likely to be away from Tyneside.

Newcastle are reportedly hoping to recoup around £25m for the Paraguayan international and if that funds a move for a player like Bowen, who has contributed over 20 goals in each of his last three seasons at West Ham, then it stands to reason that the Magpies will profit from it.

A player of that quality won’t come cheap, but if Newcastle are looking to sign players of genuine quality at centre-back and on the right wing this summer, they could generate as much funds as possible to boost their transfer coffers.

But a move to the Saudi Pro League is not a foregone conclusion and Chronicle Live understands the former MLS champion believes he can still play in the Premier League, amid a desire to ensure his next move suits all parties.

Almiron is expected to have a few weeks of rest while Newcastle’s players return for pre-season training next week, as he will represent Paraguay at the 2024 Copa America in the USA, and it would be best for all parties if a resolution on his future could be reached before then.
