Manchester United are expected to step up their efforts in the transfer market after a big week at Old Trafford.

The club formally confirmed that Erik ten Hag would remain in charge until 2026, having triggered an option in the Dutchman’s contract just days after announcing that Dan Ashworth had officially become their new sporting director following a breakthrough in negotiations with Newcastle.

United are believed to be in the market for a striker and a centre-back this summer, and a number of names have already been linked with the Red Devils, including Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt.

And with the new Premier League season just over a month away, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news…

Ten Hag holds talks on De Ligt

Erik ten Hag personally intervened to charm Matthijs de Ligt into negotiations over a potential move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old Bayern Munich defender played under the Dutchman at Ajax and has emerged as a target for the Red Devils in recent weeks.

Mirror Football highlighted that although Bayern wanted to keep him, De Ligt decided to push through the transfer after Euro 2024 after speaking to Ten Hag, who outlined his plans for the club to the defender.
