The oldest Google Street View images of Nottingham city centre and what they reveal

We all know that Nottingham has been undergoing a transformation in recent years. The demolition of the old Broad Marsh car park and bus station, the construction of the Island Quarter and the ongoing work on the Green Heart are among the major developments that have changed the face of our city.

However, the scale of the transformation is even greater when you compare the city today to around 15 years ago, as is starkly revealed by the city’s earliest Google Street View images. Google Street View, which launched in the US in 2007 before being rolled out worldwide, has been capturing images across Nottingham since 2008.

What would you like to see happen at the Broadmarsh site?

While the city has its problems today, many areas have undoubtedly seen major improvements since 2008. Many abandoned and worn-out buildings scattered throughout the city have been updated with newer spaces that are more complementary to the city’s heritage.

Major projects, such as Nottingham College’s new campus on Canal Street, have completely transformed some areas. Below are some of the oldest Google Street View images of Nottingham and the transformations they reveal.
