Newcastle launch £60m transfer bid for Marc Guehi with Toon confident of signing England Euro 2024 hero

NEWCASTLE remain hopeful of signing Marc Guehi after launching a third bid.

The Magpies’ latest bid for the Crystal Palace defender is on par with the £60m they paid Real Sociedad for Alexander Isak in 2022.

SunSport believe Guehi, 24, is open to a move to St James’ Park but his wages are unlikely to be an issue for Toon.

Palace are still holding out for £65m but Newcastle are determined to sign their man.

Guehi started against Nantes on Sunday after returning to Eagles training last week following his performance for England at Euro 2024.

Speaking after Saturday’s pre-season clash with Brest, Toon boss Eddie Howe said: “I’m focusing on the players we have.

“Other people are working on various things and I’ll let them do that.”

However, Newcastle need to sell to balance the books due to Profit and Sustainability Rules.

And the Magpies are said to have offered England winger Anthony Gordon to Liverpool earlier in the transfer window.

The Reds, under new manager Arne Slot, are still believed to be interested in the former Everton ace.

But Howe stressed the 23-year-old remains committed to Newcastle.

The former Bournemouth boss said: “He has been exceptional, focused on his job, fitness, everything to do with this football club. No distractions.”

However, Howe added: “Naturally, along with the inflows, there will also be outflows.

“I don’t mean to say that everyone literally has a ‘for sale’ sign over their head.

“We are still in a position where Financial Fair Play will affect our decision making.

“We want to keep our best players and we will fight tooth and nail to do so.”
