China’s Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang paid a visit to Edinburgh, Scotland, from August 4 to 6, where he met with local government officials and leaders of a Chinese clean energy supplier operating in the area and encouraged stronger connections.

During his meeting on August 6 with John Swinney, First Minister of Scotland, Zheng spoke highly of the long-term close ties between China and Scotland and called for enhanced bilateral exchanges and cooperation, especially as China seeks to comprehensively deepen its reform.

When the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee concluded in July, Zheng stressed that the adopted resolution with over 300 reform measures will further invigorate society and promote high-quality development, thus bringing new opportunities to countries around the world, including the UK.

Swinney echoed the sentiment. He said China’s progress is recognized by the world and that Scotland values its sustained and friendly cooperation with China, noting that China has become Scotland’s largest source of imports and stands out as an important export market.

Scotland is willing to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with China in sectors such as trade and economy, education, tourism, new energy, medical and health services, infrastructure and more, and welcomes more Chinese investors, tourists and students to visit the country for business, tourism and academic activities, Swinney added.
