Man City hearing into 115 alleged breaches to begin in September, outcome likely in early 2025 – Paper Round

The hearing into Manchester City’s 115 alleged breaches of Premier League rules is set to begin in September, with an outcome likely early in the new year, the Times reports.

The Times adds: “The independent commission was due to start in November, but sources with knowledge of the case said it is now likely to start in mid or late September unless there are further legal delays.

“The hearing is scheduled to last ten weeks, with the panel expected to deliver its verdict in early 2025. The outcome of City’s separate legal action against the Premier League’s associated party transaction (APT) rules is expected to be revealed in the next two weeks, which would allow the hearing into all 115 charges to take place sooner.”

City are accused of breaching financial rules, some of which date back to 2009.

Chelsea back for Felix

Chelsea have returned to talks with Atletico Madrid over the signing of Joao Felix after their move for Samu Omorodion fell through, the Guardian reports.

The Guardian adds: “Chelsea are believed to have held talks with Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes over a deal to re-sign the 24-year-old Portuguese striker on a permanent contract after they failed to agree personal terms with Omorodion, with Atletico valuing him at around €50m (£43m).

“A £34.5m fee for Omorodion – the Spanish striker who was part of the gold medal-winning team at the Olympics – had already been agreed with Atletico. But it remains to be seen whether this has any effect on the Spanish club’s move for Conor Gallagher, despite the England midfielder being pictured in Madrid last week completing his medical.

“Atlético are on the verge of announcing the signing of Julián Álvarez from Manchester City in a deal worth up to €95m (£81.5m) and were banking on the sale of Omorodion to fund their move for Gallagher.”

Newcastle go after Guehi again

Newcastle have made a third bid at Crystal Palace of an initial £55m for defender Marc Guehi, reports the Daily Mail. Newcastle’s interest in the England international has been no secret this summer, but a fee has yet to be agreed.

That offer would increase to £60m with potential add-ons, but that figure is still below Palace’s minimum valuation of £65m.

The Mail adds: “Newcastle were expected to return with a third bid for England star Guehi after we revealed on Friday that the Magpies had seen their second offer, believed to be for an initial £48m plus add-ons that would take the deal past the £50m mark, rejected by Palace.

“That offer is now ongoing and being considered by Eagles chiefs. “Sporting director Paul Mitchell is handling negotiations for Newcastle and has informed Palace of his new offer.”

Forest business near Sosa

Nottingham Forest are close to signing 24-year-old winger Ramón Sosa from Argentine club Talleres, the Telegraph reports, while Forest are also in the market for another centre-forward.

Paraguay international Sosa is set to cost Forest £11million, with the deal likely to be completed before the start of the new Premier League season.

The Telegraph adds: “Nuno is determined to add more depth to his squad ahead of his first full season in charge and Sosa is regarded as a genuinely exciting talent.

“Forest completed the signing of Portuguese striker Jota Silva last week, although there is a slim chance he could join Evangelos Marinakis’ Greek club Olympiacos on loan if Sosa and another winger arrive before the transfer deadline.

“Sosa is expected to undergo medical tests in the next 48 hours and is considered a first-team signing this season.”
