Ahead of the season opener, we spoke to U18s Head Coach Tom Hutton: “The preparation was really good. It gave our first years a real taste of what it’s like to be an academy student, the commitment it entails and the challenges it brings. Secondly, it allowed us to prepare the boys for how we want them to play on the pitch. We had a really varied programme of games in pre-season which really enriched their preparation for the campaign.

“We want to try and play as well as we can in every game and get a positive result at the end of it, but this is a development journey for the boys and we know we are a young group so the challenges they will face, particularly in the league, are still to come. We have a lot of under-18s playing at under-21 level and that is how we want to do things.
