The Newcastle United Blog | Newcastle Confirm Capture Of Young Striker

Newcastle have announced the signing of 21-year-old striker William Osula from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee. It has been reported in the press that the initial cost of the Danish Under-21 international was £10 million, rising to £15 million with add-ons.

Here’s confirmation of Newcastle’s new striker.

This is what William had to say about joining the rising Magpies:

“I’m really happy to be here. It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m really happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United.

“It’s a great opportunity and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came up.

“It’s here, and I’m so happy to be here.”

Here are some thoughts from our esteemed manager Eddie Howe:

“William is a talented young striker with all the attributes to be an exciting player for Newcastle United.

“We have followed his development closely and are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him on this next step in his career.

“I know our fans will join me in giving William a warm welcome to the club and the city.”

Osula joins as a likely third-choice behind superstar Alexander Isak and the in-form reliable Callum Wilson. While his arrival is largely based on potential, the club will be hoping Eddie Howe can unlock Osula’s undoubted potential.

Osula is quite versatile, able to play on either flank while also having capable attacks with either foot. Sheffield have used him on the left with some promising moments in pre-season.

I wouldn’t expect to see much of Osula in the early parts of this season, barring disaster. He will be moulded in training by Howe à la Lewis Hall last term. If all goes to plan, Newcastle could have a weapon in attack for the second half of the season and beyond.
