More fitness concerns for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after Liverpool defeat

Manchester United’s pre-season injury problems continued, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans all forced off during the 3-0 friendly defeat to Liverpool in South Carolina.

Manager Erik ten Hag has had to deal with a number of issues during the pre-season tour of the United States, having lost new signing Leny Yoro for three months due to a foot injury, while striker Rasmus Hojlund suffered a hamstring strain in the defeat to Arsenal.

United suffered further problems in the win over Real Betis as Marcus Rashford and Antony were taken off with problems, although both featured in the defeat to Liverpool, but defensive trio Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof and Evans looked unable to get going.

Lindelof was withdrawn at half-time as a precaution, while Evans was ruled out due to illness.

Wan-Bissaka, who was linked with West Ham during the transfer window, went down in the 80th minute and was treated on the pitch before James Scanlon replaced him, while 21-year-old Will Fish was also unable to continue after a challenge with Liverpool striker Harvey Blair.

Harry Maguire sat out the Liverpool game as a precaution.

Ten Hag told MUTV: “We have to see what happened.

“The assessment, of course, with Will Fish is that it’s an impact injury. We also had to replace Jonny Evans at half-time because he was ill. Victor Lindelof was a precaution. So, yes, there are some injuries, but we have to see how bad it is.

“Pre-season is always difficult. But, yes, Harry Maguire, as a precaution, we left him out.

“And we had, of course, some injuries, but that’s part of club football. We have to develop our team and make good progression.”
