West Ham and Newcastle United in battle for signing – Hammers ‘not giving up’ on another deal

West Ham United have ramped up their transfer window somewhat in recent days, working to complete a number of deals for Julen Lopetegui.

There are still other targets being worked on by the London club, and they are in a number of transfer disputes. Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports that both Newcastle United and West Ham are in the picture to land Logan Costa from Toulouse.

Bologna are very interested in the 23-year-old central defender, but are unwilling to pay the €15-18m the French club reportedly want now.

Newcastle and West Ham would certainly have no problem with that figure if they believed Costa was the player they wanted. Sunday’s edition of Corriere di Bologna puts the price tag at €15m, saying the Serie A player “will have to overcome competition from West Ham”, although there is no mention of Newcastle in their report.

Elsewhere in Gazzetta dello Sport there is a report on Jean-Clair Todibo and it insists that West Ham have “not given up” on signing the Nice player.

The Italian newspaper explains again that the defender wants to join Juventus and is pushing the Hammers away, but the Turin side are nowhere near as close to Nice’s demands as they were a few days ago.

Juve’s offer is a loan with a €30m option to buy that becomes compulsory if certain conditions are met. Nice see it as just a loan with an option and are not happy about it.
