Fabrizio Romano now shares what he’s heard about Newcastle signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace

Newcastle United want Crystal Palace to defend Marc Guehi but things might not be quite as advanced as some Mags fans want.

The England defender saw his stock rise a lot in the Euros and he’s wanted by a number of clubs in England.

Of course, the most concrete interest we’ve heard so far is that of Newcastle.

The Mags have apparently opened talks about signing Guehi as they look to make a statement signing before the new season.

Newcastle’s interest in Guehi comes amid suggestions Liverpool have backed out of signing the defender.

However, speaking about the situation with Guehi and Newcastle, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that while interest is there, things are not actually that advanced at all.

Marc Guehi to Newcastle possible but no bid just yet

Speaking on his YouTube channel about the potential for Newcastle to sign Marc Guehi.

“Newcastle, I can confirm they asked for information on Marc Guehi, they approached Crystal Palace so it was a direct approach,” Romano said.

“As of today though, I’m told there has been no formal bid from Newcastle and Crystal Palace will ask something around the £60-65m mark for Guehi.

“So it’s not going to be an easy deal but for sure the interest is there and for sure there could be movement there.”

Newcastle wants deals done

The immediate threat on PSR has been avoided this summer and Newcastle are now free to spend a bit of money if they wish.

However, paying around £65m for Marc Guehi is a big splash in the market and there’s a chance that it scuppers any other business.

Of course, there are suggestions they could sell Anthony Gordon as well, with Ebere Eze apparently lined up as his replacement if he goes to Liverpool.

But in the main, it is clear the Mags want to get business done quickly now and give Eddie Howe a chance for the new season.

Sheffield United’s Will Osula is also close to signing, meaning Newcastle will have at least made some moves before the season kicks off.
