Far-right protesters clash with police as unrest spreads across UK

Protesters threw chairs, flares and bricks at police in the northwest English city of Liverpool, while clashes between police and protesters took place in neighboring Manchester.

Merseyside Police said “several officers were injured whilst dealing with serious disorder” in Liverpool city centre.

The BBC reported that protesters smashed the windows of a hotel that was used to house migrants in the northeastern city of Hull. Police said three officers were injured and four people were arrested.

In Belfast, Northern Ireland, fireworks were set off amid tense exchanges between an anti-Islam group and an anti-racism protest.

In Leeds, northern England, around 150 people carrying English flags chanted: “You are not English any more”, while counter-protesters shouted “Nazi scum off our streets”.

Opposing groups of protesters also clashed in the central city of Nottingham and Bristol in the southwest.
