The underrated UK seaside town with the cheapest fish and chips in Britain | Travel News | Travel

There’s nothing better than a delicious chippie on the beach, and it’s even better if it’s not expensive.

New Brighton is a little-known seaside town located at the tip of the Wirral peninsula, with a huge stretch of sandy coastline. As well as being a pretty town with a beach, this place is also home to the cheapest fish and chip shops in Britain.

In a study conducted by Capital on Tap, New Brighton was crowned the cheapest fish and chips restaurant in the UK, with an average cost of just £7.67.

Capital on Tap said: “Despite its budget price tag, New Brighton’s fish and chips maintain a solid reputation with a commendable rating of 4.3 out of 5. This combination of affordability and quality makes it a clear favourite among budget-conscious diners who refuse to compromise on taste.”

The coastal town has several very reasonably priced restaurants, including The Seaside Cafe, decorated in a charmingly traditional style.

Derek L. said on Tripadvisor: “We couldn’t believe the prices. My meal was £7.95, if you added a pound you got tea, bread and butter. Great staff too. Would highly recommend!”

While MajN66 said: “The best fish and chips for miles. Fast service and excellent food. The price is very reasonable.”

But Seaside Cafe isn’t the only cheap eatery in town. Helen’s Fish & Chips is also a popular eatery with reasonable prices.

Stace Conroy said on Google: “All I can say is that Helen’s Chippy is the Mecca of all chip shops at the moment in my opinion – fresh chips, the fish is cooked well, but the Salt n Pepper chips, well they were like they were from the planet Mars, THEY WERE amazing!!”

Prices at Helen’s Fish & Chips are said to range from £1 to £10.

More excellently priced fish and chips can be found at Sun Hua Fish & Chips, New World and Perch Fish Bar, among many others.

Not only can you buy a delicious bag of chips for next to nothing, New Brighton is also a beautiful town with beautiful views of the English coast.

It was also the filming location for the Sky One drama Cobra, a British political series starring Robert Carlyle and Victoria Hamilton.

So if you’re looking for a budget-friendly getaway on the English coast, look no further than New Brighton on the Wirral.
