Jonny Evans gives worrying update on Rasmus Hojlund injury after speaking to Man Utd forward

Hojlund and new signing Leny Yoro were forced off in United’s defeat to Arsenal.

Jonny Evans has provided a worrying update on Rasmus Hojlund’s fitness after speaking to the striker following Manchester United’s pre-season defeat to Arsenal.

United were beaten 2-1 by the Gunners in the early hours of Sunday morning at SoFi Stadium in California.

Hojlund, 21, put Erik ten Hag’s side ahead after just 10 minutes but goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli turned the game around.

Just minutes after giving United the lead, Hojlund was forced off with an injury.

And to make matters worse for the Old Trafford club, new signing Leny Yoro was also forced to leave the pitch in discomfort in his second appearance for the Red Devils since joining from Lille in a deal worth up to £62m.

Speaking after the match, United manager Ten Hag said he was unsure about the severity of Hojlund and Yoro’s injuries and would have to wait for scan results.

“It’s too little time (to know about the injuries) and we’ll have to wait more than 24 hours, so hopefully we’ll know more,” Ten Hag said.

“We were careful especially with Leny (Yoro) as he only did 50 per cent of the (training) sessions. He has to step up but we will be positive and see what happens.”

Hojlund himself gave a cryptic response when asked about the injury, commenting after the match: “We’ll see.”

United defender Evans provided further insight in his post-match interview, claiming Hojlund felt a hamstring problem before being withdrawn.

“Rasmus has hinted it’s his hamstring but I’m not sure about Leny yet,” Evans said.

“Obviously you don’t want any injuries in pre-season. That’s one of the biggest things you’re trying to avoid.

“We don’t know how serious their injuries are. I hope they’re not that serious.”

United will face Real Betis on Thursday before facing rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

They will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10, and the opening game of the new Premier League season will be against Fulham on August 16.
