Fans notice Gabriel’s furious response after Andre Onana’s bizarre tactic in Man Utd v Arsenal penalty shootout

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Arsenal on Saturday night, and fans were quick to pick up on Gabriel’s reaction to Andre Onana’s penalty shootout antics.

Top clubs are busy preparing for the start of the new Premier League season next month.

Many have headed to the United States for pre-season, with Erik ten Hag and Mikel Arteta’s teams being two of them.

So far, United have suffered a defeat to Norwegian side Rosenborg and a win over Rangers, and have further friendlies in the US against Real Betis and Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth and still have more pre-season games against Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon to come.

In Los Angeles on Saturday night, Arsenal beat United 2-1 after Rasmus Hojlund gave Ten Hag’s side an early lead.

However, the Gunners equalised through Gabriel Jesus before Gabriel Martinelli scored what proved to be the winning goal towards the end of the game.

Although Arsenal won the game inside 90 minutes, there was also a pre-arranged penalty shootout, which United won 4-3 when Jadon Sancho, who returned to Old Trafford after a loan spell in the second half of last season at Borussia Dortmund, scored the winning penalty.

In the penalty shootout win, Gabriel scored Arsenal’s final penalty when United goalkeeper Onana went the wrong way

The Gunners defender then gestured for Onana to keep quiet, in response to the Cameroonian’s approach to try and distract the Arsenal players by moving to one side of the goal during the build-up and suggesting that the opposition players kick into a certain corner.

And on social media, Gunners fans were certainly behind the defender as he put Onana in his place after scoring goals with failed mind games.

One wrote: “My CB.”

Another said: “He took the coldest penalty of the night.”

One Gunners fan posted: “My boss Gabi.”

Another wrote: “I calmed Onana down pretty quickly.”

And another fan simply posted: “My Gabi.”

United will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10 before opening their top-flight campaign six days later against Fulham at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Arsenal begin their campaign against Wolves at the Emirates Stadium on August 17.
