Traffic disruption expected on Tyne Bridge during repairs

Other traffic measures include temporary traffic lights at Quayside, at the junction with Sandhill and Kings Street, which will remain in place until early September.

According to the council, there will also be some temporary lane closures.

Closures are also expected between Sandhill and Broadchare on the Quayside between 20:00 BST and 06:00 BST from 9 to 20 September.

The scaffolding will allow workers to access the steel structure and underside of the bridge so it can be repaired and repainted.

The council also said the scaffolding is being installed outside of the kittiwake breeding season and will incorporate specialised ledges that the birds will be able to access and use to nest when they return to the Tyne in 2025.

The works are expected to be completed in the summer of 2028.
