Liverpool will apparently face competition from Manchester United for one of their reported transfer targets this summer. The Reds have been credited with interest in a number of players but are yet to make any new additions to their squad.

One player who has been linked with a move to Anfield is Lutsharel Geertruida. The Feyenoord defender emerged as a potential target earlier this summer as the Reds reportedly consider signing a new right-back.

However, it appears Liverpool are not alone in their interest in signing Geertruida, as Caught Offside now report that United have added the 24-year-old to their list of potential right-back targets.

The report claims that Bayern Munich star Noussair Mazraoui is United’s priority target for right-back this summer. Should the Old Trafford club fail to sign the Morocco international, Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has been identified as their ‘plan B’ option.

However, if the Old Trafford club fail to sign Mazraoui or Dumfries, the report claims they will attempt to sign Geertruida as their “plan C”. Paris Saint-Germain are also mentioned in the report as preparing to compete with Liverpool for the Feyenoord defender’s signature.

This is not the first time Liverpool have been mentioned as a potential destination for Geertruida. Former Reds star Dirk Kuyt, who worked as a youth coach at Feyenoord, tipped Geertruida to move to Liverpool earlier this summer to become the first signing of the Slot era.

“The level from Holland to England is at least two levels higher, so it’s not easy to make that change,” Kuyt exclusively told Ladbrokes 1-2-Free earlier this month.

“So when you talk about Feyenoord players joining Arne (Slot) at Liverpool, I think Lutsharel Geertruida is really the one who could make that move.

“Lutsharel is someone I would love to see playing in the Premier League. I really think he would fit into English football. He has great stamina, he is great on the ball, he is physically strong… he is capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

“I get asked a lot about players who I think are good enough to step up to the level of Liverpool, or the Premier League in general, in the Netherlands, and Lutsharel is definitely one of them. I hope he gets the chance, one day, to play in the Premier League – and hopefully it will be in a Liverpool shirt.”
