£50m target Edu Gaspar loves now reveals ‘dream’ move Arsenal can offer what Chelsea can’t

£50m target Edu Gaspar loves now reveals ‘dream’ move Arsenal can offer what Chelsea can’t

Arsenal were recently linked with the signing of Nottingham Forest defender Murillo and he has now given them a potential transfer boost.

The defender has been outstanding for Nottingham Forest and has been linked with a £50million move to a number of clubs, including Arsenal.

Former Corinthians defender Murillo has attracted the interest of Arsenal director Edu Gaspar, who is said to be far more interested in signing him than Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to complete a deal for Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori, and they are well stocked in defence. However, if they want to add another option in the future, Murillo could be keen on a move.

Arsenal target Murillo reveals Champions League dream

In an interview with The Telegraph, Murillo revealed that he would love to play in the Champions League one day.

“Of course I want to eventually play in the Champions League. When I was a kid, I played video games and played with all those teams,” he said.

“Whenever I hear this classical music before games, it moves me, and it would be a dream to play in this competition.”

Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs interested, and it is the Gunners who could offer more Champions League opportunities than their London rivals.

Despite his long-term goal of playing in the Champions League, possibly at Arsenal, Murillo has also expressed his desire to stay at Forest and play regularly for another year.

“I need regular game time and I really feel that with Forest I am in the best place for my career,” he added.

“Staying here for another season will allow me to mature as a player and eventually be better prepared if I ever get the chance to play at another level.”

Arsenal were unlikely to pursue their interest now anyway, but if he continues to impress, he could be seen as another option next summer.

If he is still interested in moving to a club where he does not feature regularly, he could be an excellent option in the squad should other defenders leave, such as the injury-prone Oleksandr Zinchenko or Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Arsenal bid farewell to Hale End trio as Ethan Nwaneri rises

On this week’s episode of The Arsenal Insider Podcast, Will Jones and Rahul Lakhani paid emotional tributes to Hale End quartet Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson, with transfers for the latter three now looking likely.

Smith Rowe’s impact upon breaking into the Arsenal squad has been remembered, with the midfielder arguably saving Mikel Arteta’s job when he was introduced to the squad in 2020.

There was also analysis of Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in their opening pre-season game, while Edu Gaspar’s next steps in the transfer market were discussed.
