Arsenal 2 – 1 Man Utd

Manchester United are expected to know the extent of injuries to Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro within 48 hours after both were substituted in the first half of their 2-1 pre-season defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles.

The usual procedure is to wait 24 hours for the swelling to disappear and then have a CT scan for a more accurate assessment.

Hojlund appeared to indicate to medical staff that he had a hamstring problem after a run, shortly after showing superior pace and fitness to score the opening goal.

Yoro limped away after lengthy treatment and there appeared to be more concern surrounding his injury.

Erik ten Hag said the club “were especially careful with Leny as he only did 50 percent of the (training) sessions” and that he would be “positive” about the diagnosis of both players.

Speaking to the press afterwards, defender Jonny Evans reflected on the concerns over Hojlund and Yoro, saying: “Obviously you don’t want any injuries, especially in pre-season.

“You know one of the biggest things you’re trying to avoid while also staying fit at the same time. The injuries, hopefully, aren’t too bad, but we’ll see, we’ll probably see tomorrow, I’m sure.

“Muscle injuries aren’t good either. But. I don’t actually know Rasmus. I think he kind of hinted at his hamstring. I’m not sure about that.”

“It was a test,” Arteta said. “There are no three points but there are a lot of things on the table and you can see that.

“I think both teams were equal. Man Utd competed at the highest level as well and that’s what you want, you want to be well prepared for the games we have in the league and the Champions League. You need to have a good understanding of where your team is as quickly as possible.”

“Obviously there are different layers and different things we need to improve, but I think we have a good foundation at the moment.

“The spirit is good, the way the boys are working and dedicating themselves, the desire they have to compete and win is there, and I’ve tried to make the most of the last two weeks to give them the best possible base.”

On Jesus’ pre-season form, the Arsenal boss added: “He looks really good, he looks really sharp. He changed a lot of things over the summer and he’s come back in great condition again.

“When you have that baseline, other things can be built on, but without that foundation you don’t have a player and he needs to be in that condition to get the best out of him. He realised that and I’m really happy with what he showed again today. You can see it in the way he looks, the way he’s moving and you can see in his eyes that there’s a spark there.”
