“10 times better” than against Wrexham – Enzo Maresca analyses Celtic’s 4-1 defeat

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has attempted to take some positives from his side’s 4-1 defeat to Celtic in the USA last night.

Maresca has played two, drawn one and lost one, with the last result being a thrashing. Of course, I think most fans know not to get carried away with pre-season friendlies anyway, but there were certainly some worrying signs from Chelsea last night, and Maresca was keen to pick up on them too.

This left many Chelsea fans thinking it would be another long season for the Blues, but we all have to remember that it will take time for a new manager to come in and implement a new style of play, although there are clearly some big concerns here.

Chelsea were thrashed by Celtic

Chelsea scored two open play goals against Wrexham, conceded just two and were unbeaten in the match. But despite that, there was one element of the game where Maresca believes his team were ten times better.

As quoted by Football London, Maresca said: “For us, we need to analyse the game in general. I think on the ball, the team was 10 times better than in the game against Wrexham and that is important because we can see the amount of chances we created in the first and second half.

“And off the ball, for sure, we can improve things and you can see that sometimes we get confused when we need to play short, a little bit longer. It’s part of the process.”
