How Nottingham Forest’s 25-man dream squad is shaping up as key transfer decisions loom

Nottingham Forest’s squad for the 2024/25 Premier League season is starting to take shape.

The Reds have been hard-pressed to start the summer window with five signings made so far. Marko Stamenic will spend the campaign on loan at Olympiacos, but Carlos Miguel, Elliot Anderson, Eric da Silva Moreira and Nikola Milenkovic will all be hoping to play their part in a push up the table for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Forest will want to end the window with a balanced dressing room and sufficient strength in depth across the pitch. Players being able to operate in a few different positions could help with this, as Nuno likes to work with a small group.

More entries are expected as some areas still need to be addressed. But the deals made so far look very positive.

Top-flight clubs are required to submit 25-man squad lists once the window closes. The Reds still have some leeway to add to theirs as things stand.

Several players whose futures are uncertain remain on the books. Taking those players out of the equation — along with Moreira, who doesn’t count toward the total as an Under-21 player — there are still a few roster spots up for grabs.

What does Forest’s squad look like at the moment?

Goalkeepers: Carlos Miguel, Matz Sel, Matt Turner.

Sides: Neco Williams, Harry Toffolo, Ola Aina.

Defenders: Willy Boly, Murillo, Andrew Omobamidele, Nikola Milenkovic.

Midfielders: Ryan Yates, Danilo, Nicolas Dominguez, Ibrahim Sangare, Elliot Anderson.

Attackers: Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Anthony Elanga.

Attackers: Chris Wood, Taiwo Awoniyi.

Turner has interest in MLS, so he could still move on. Players still on the books who could also leave, either on loan or permanently, are: Joe Worrall, Omar Richards, Alex Mighten, Lewis O’Brien, Josh Bowler, Emmanuel Dennis and Hwang Ui-jo.

With 20 squad places filled so far – 19 if Turner leaves – it leaves room for the Reds to add a few more signings. Of course, it remains to be seen whether any of these players whose futures are in doubt can force their way into Nuno’s thinking and secure a place in the squad.

Nuno has said he wants at least one winger; two or one plus a reserve No.10 would provide good cover. Bringing in a striker would increase Forest’s firepower, while another centre-back and a full-back could complete the roster.
