Manchester United in talks with Greek side Panathinaikos over Facundo Pellistri transfer

With Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee already on their way out of Old Trafford, the drastic change in Manchester United’s approach to the transfer window under the new transfer team formed by INEOS is there for all to see this summer as they look to shape a new team for Erik ten Hag ahead of the 2024/25 season.

While more signings are on the way, the Red Devils also need to move players and raise capital to balance their books, having already sold Mason Greenwood earlier in the week.

Another player who spent last season on loan was Facundo Pellistri, with the Uruguayan winger spending the second half of the season at Granada in Spain.

Erik ten Hag has given the 22-year-old a few opportunities since his move in 2020, but he has failed to impress and has looked too inconsistent for a club of United’s stature.

In La Liga, the former Peñarol star scored twice and provided two assists in 15 games, making a strong impression against Barcelona.

Pellistri’s contract with United runs until 2025 and the Red Devils are open to a sale, with Greek Super League side Panathinaikos the latest club to express an interest, according to journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos.

Corinthians, Flamengo, Besiktas and Boca Juniors have all shown interest in acquiring Pellistri’s signature recently following his brilliant performance at the Copa America in the USA, where he helped Uruguay finish third.

It remains to be seen whether this will become something concrete and whether Panathinaikos will actually come forward with a proposal to sign the Uruguayan international this summer.
