Leeds United send brilliantly timed Georginio Rutter post amid worrying £30m news

Leeds United turned down a bid from Brighton for Georginio Rutter in the region of £30m this week.

The Whites are back in pre-season this week as Daniel Farke looks to lead the team back to the Premier League for a second time.

A large portion of their squad are back at Thorp Arch for initial trials this week, with training expected to take place before pre-season matches begin.

Brighton have £30m bid for Georginio Rutter rejected

On the same day that Leeds sold Archie Gray to Tottenham, worrying news emerged about Georginio Rutter.

LeedsLive’s Beren Cross reported on Tuesday evening that Leeds have received a £30m bid from Brighton for the Frenchman.

The offer in question was declined within the “last 48 hours,” as the 49ers apparently look to hold on to this prized asset:

Is selling Archie Gray for £40m a good or bad deal?

Leeds shares timely social media post amid Rutter news

As this news unfolded, fans were rightly concerned that another star player could be sold to the Premier League.

However, just as the content was released on the first day of pre-season, the club also published a timely post about Rutter.

Less than 10 minutes after the rejected bid was revealed, this post was shared from the smiling Frenchman at Thorp Arch:

Rutter cannot be sold by Leeds under any circumstances

There is no scenario in which selling Rutter makes the slightest bit of sense for Leeds this summer, for a few reasons.

Firstly, he cost us £36m, so even with 18 months’ amortisation he won’t represent such a large profit for PSR that he’s worth considering in the same way as Gray, Summerville or Gnonto.

Secondly, he was our most creative presence up front last season, and that brilliance in the final third is impossible to replicate at this level with a signing.

He’s simply too good for Farke to consider selling him because he usually makes the difference in our performances.
