Sligo Rovers sign Luke Pearce on loan from Cardiff City – The Home of Irish Football

Sligo Rovers have announced the loan signing of Cardiff City striker Luke Pearce, with the 20-year-old set to stay at the club until the end of the 2024 season.

Pearce, who began his footballing journey at Walsall, spent three seasons at Southampton, making regular appearances for both the B and U21 teams. He also had loan spells at Torquay and Eastbourne before signing for Cardiff City earlier this month.

The striker represented Ireland at under-18 and under-19 levels, having qualified through his mother from County Sligo.

“I already know a lot about Sligo and Rovers through my mum’s family. It’s a really big deal for my family that I’m out on loan for a while,” Pearce said.

“I can’t wait to get on the field and play in front of the fans.”

Pearce expressed his excitement about competing in the League of Ireland.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how I can do in the League of Ireland. I know it’s a very competitive league and Rovers are doing well at the moment based on recent results. I’ve only been here a short time but I can feel the positivity around the club, both on and off the pitch.”

“I’m really looking forward to gaining first-team experience here and helping Rovers take off in the league. And of course the FAI Cup is coming up very soon so I’ll be looking to make an impact.”

Rovers manager John Russell has had his eye on Pearce for some time and is optimistic about the new signing.

“Luke is a player I’ve had my eye on for a while. I feel he will bring energy and aggression to our front line. He has really good movement and has the ability to score different types of goals,” Russell said.

“It’s important that we’ve added to our squad this window. There are a lot of important games coming up, so securing Luke on loan is a really good deal for us.”
