Police on alert as disorder erupts for second night running in south Belfast – The Irish News

Police have urged people to avoid part of the Village area of ​​south Belfast as disorder erupts for a second night running.

Police officers were attacked by youths throwing objects, including bricks, in the Glenmachan Street area, near the Broadway roundabout.

The area was the scene of disorder last night, with up to 50 youths involved, and police who arrived at the scene were attacked with paint and petrol bombs.

The aftermath in the Village area of ​​south Belfast after firebombs and paint bombs were thrown on Monday night.

Damage was also caused to police vehicles.



In a statement on Tuesday evening, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Road users and members of the public are advised to avoid the Glenmachan Street area of ​​south Belfast due to ongoing disorder.

“Outage is expected for a few hours. We appreciate your patience at this time, and a further update will be provided in due course.”
