First order in London for next-generation Enviro range

Stagecoach London has ordered the first next-generation Enviro100EV and Enviro400EV models. ALEXANDER DENNIS

Alexander Dennis has confirmed the first order from a London operator for its next-generation electric buses. Stagecoach will receive 24 new Enviro100EV small buses and 17 Enviro400EV double-decker buses in early 2025 for routes operated on behalf of Transport for London (TfL).

The next generation of Alexander Dennis electric buses meet the latest iterations of TfL’s Bus Safety Standard. Alexander Dennis was the first manufacturer to receive a positive result in independent crash tests for the buses’ revised frontal geometry, which protects vulnerable road users and improves drivers’ forward vision.

In London specification, the next-generation Enviro400EV is 10.5m long and can seat up to 62 passengers. The Enviro100EV fits into TfL’s smallest single-decker bus class, providing 21 seats in a vehicle that can navigate tight residential streets thanks to its short 8.5m length and narrow 2.35m width.

Alexander Dennis Group Sales and Business Development Manager Ben Werth said: “This new order further confirms the incredible success of our next-generation vehicle platform, which we have designed in-house from the outset to deliver value to the UK bus industry through efficiency, longevity and flexibility.

“Even before the first London-spec demonstrators hit the streets, orders are already being taken by Stagecoach as the group recognises the potential for our latest generation buses to deliver excellent total cost of ownership with an electric drive system that can last two full terms of TfL’s route contract without the need for battery replacement.”

TfL’s bus director, Nick Owen, said: “London has the largest zero-emission bus fleet in Western Europe, with over 1,400 buses, and we’re looking forward to welcoming these 41 new electric Alexander Dennis buses onto our routes. When the entire fleet is zero-emission, we will have saved around 5 million tonnes of carbon.

“These new zero-emission buses all meet our Bus Safety Standards for safer journeys for all road users and will also support vital jobs across the UK at various stages of their production.”

Paul Lynch, Chief Executive of Stagecoach London, added: “We look forward to operating these buses which promise a step forward in range and longevity. They join our rapidly growing fleet of electric buses as we play our part in delivering TfL and the Mayor’s targets for London, as well as our own Stagecoach commitments on carbon reduction.”
