A custody and detention officer (CDO) has been arrested on suspicion of sexual touching, misconduct and virtual display.

The officer, based at Bolton Police Station, was arrested on Sunday and has been suspended from Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

The alleged misconduct was against a woman who was acting as a proper adult to a person who was in custody.

A complaint about the officer was filed in June, related to alleged sexual misconduct that began in May.

Security camera footage from the police custody station was seized, police said, along with other digital materials.

The CDO has been on pre-charge probation since Tuesday night and the alleged misconduct has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

While detectives are taking statements from “all relevant parties”, police said they have made a voluntary referral to the IOPC “regarding the decisions and speed of action taken in response to the allegation made”.

GMP added that it had offered support to the alleged victim.

The allegations come in the week that Dame Vera Baird’s report into GMP’s treatment of people in its custody is due to be published.

The inquiry was commissioned after a Sky News Investigation last year.
