Glen Kamara leaves Leeds for Rennes

Leeds United have confirmed the departure of Glen Kamara as the midfielder joins Stade Rennais on a permanent deal.

The Finland international signed for Leeds last summer from Rangers for a fee believed to be in the region of £5m.

Kamara played an important role in Daniel Farke’s side that reached the play-off final, making 42 appearances in all competitions during his only season at the club.

Announcement

The 28-year-old will join Rennes in Ligue 1 after finishing 10th last season.

Rennes were long-time admirers of Kamara and tried to sign him last summer when Leeds secured his services. The Athletic reported on Monday that Leeds were in an advanced situation to transfer Kamara permanently to the French side.

The deal for the midfielder is for an undisclosed fee, although it is believed to be almost double what Leeds paid for him a year ago.

Leeds have some cover in the No. 8 position in midfield following the loan signing of Joe Rothwell from Bournemouth last week.

Kamara is the latest in a string of departures from Elland Road this summer, including Archie Gray, Marc Roca, Diego Llorente, Charlie Cresswell and Jack Harrison.

Leeds have so far made three additions to Farke’s squad, with Rothwell joining defender Joe Rodon and goalkeeper Alex Cairns at the club.
