LCFC President honoured by University of Leicester

The success of Leicester City Football Club under chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has been recognised by the University of Leicester at a ceremony at De Montfort Hall.

– Leicester City Mayor Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has been awarded an honorary degree by the University of Leicester
– The presentation at De Montfort Hall celebrated Khun Top’s successful stewardship of the Football Club

In honor of his success in managing the Football Club, Khun Top was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws during a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, July 16.

After succeeding his late father Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha as chairman in 2018, Khun Top has overseen many memorable moments for both the football club and its supporters, including a first-ever FA Cup success in 2021, as well as a first-ever European semi-final in the UEFA Europa Conference League a year later.

Last season, Leicester City returned to the Premier League after a fantastic campaign that saw them crowned Championship champions for a record eighth time, leading to yet another memorable scene for the city as the players lifted the trophy in front of 50,000 fans at the Clock Tower.

Leicester City chairman said: “I am truly humbled to receive this honour from the University of Leicester – an institution in our city that shares our commitment to excellence, service to our communities and positive social change.

“His work with Leicester City on the Chair in Child Health is a collaboration we are very proud of and demonstrates the power of community stakeholders working together for the benefit of future generations.

“My congratulations to all of this year’s graduates on their extraordinary achievements, which are the result of years of dedication to their respective fields. I hope that their time in the city of Leicester has taught them that anything is possible.”

University of Leicester President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Nishan Canagarajah said: “The Srivaddhanaprabha family’s impact on the city of Leicester cannot be underestimated. Their commitment to Leicester City Football Club goes beyond the investment they have made on the pitch, with the family establishing the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation, which works with Leicester-based causes to build support and develop the local community.

“Top has embraced the difficult task of taking over the stewardship of the Foxes from his father, and his leadership and love for his adopted city are clear to see. Srivaddhanaprabha’s legacy is safe in Top’s hands, and I am delighted to officially welcome him to the University of Leicester family.”

Leicester City has a proud legacy alongside the University of Leicester, including the establishment of the LCFC Chair in Child Health and associated Research Programme. Donations to form this Chair are being used to fund research that aims to improve the health of Leicester’s children, both today and in the future.

The University of Leicester also conferred an honorary degree on the late Leicester City chairman Khun Vichai in January 2016, ahead of the football club’s famous against-all-odds Premier League victory, with both awards also serving to honour all that the Srivaddhanaprabha family have done for the city of Leicester and its football club.
