Brighton stonewall the club as transfer talks continue – Ignoring the players’ wishes too

Brighton and Hove Albion are currently blocking VfB Stuttgart as the German side attempt to sign Deniz Undav on a permanent basis.

That’s according to Stuttgarter Nachrichten, which says that ‘poker’ for the striker is now in a ‘delicate phase’.

The newspaper reports that Stuttgart are prepared to spend big money on Undav following his impressive loan spell last season.

Negotiations between them and Brighton have been ongoing for some time but have stalled and are going nowhere, because of the Seagulls.

Stuttgart have offered €23.5m for the striker, but Brighton have not reacted to that offer in any way. They are stonewalling the Germans, who see it as part of a strategy to keep them guessing.

There were no comments about the value offered or even any comments suggesting what they would like for Undav.

That is frustrating for Stuttgart, who are willing to pay for the striker and have already found themselves embroiled in a complex transfer game that saw them activate a buyout clause only to have that countered by Brighton with a buyback option.

Now the Seagulls are testing the lengths to which Stuttgart will go to sign the German and giving the cold shoulder to Stuttgart increasing the pressure and, presumably, the amount they are willing to pay.

They are also willing to overlook Undav, who has made it publicly clear he wants change, even if he brings that “discontent” to the team in pre-season.

Whether this will work remains to be seen, but frustration is clearly building in Stuttgart, suggesting the tactic is having some effect.
