They have also been linked with Chelsea captain Reece James in recent years but are likely to be let down by his injury problems.

The right-back played 310 times under the legendary German manager, winning a Champions League, a Premier League title, an FA Cup and two League Cups.

He is Klopp’s fourth most-used player in his managerial career, behind Mohamed Salah, James Milner and Roberto Firmino, who leads with 355 appearances.

The 57-year-old man – which is being linked to the work of England despite being on a career hiatus – has brought out the best in Alexander-Arnold, who came through Liverpool’s youth academy and produced 81 assists under his former manager, a tally bettered only by Egypt striker Salah (89).

Alexander-Arnold may be keen for a change of scenery, but as a youngster who has been nurtured by the Reds, it seems unlikely he will want to leave.

Contract talks have been shelved despite his current deal expiring in less than a year, with major changes behind the scenes and in the dugout taking up most of Anfield chiefs’ time at the moment.

They may end up regretting not making extending Alexander-Arnold’s contract a priority, as Real Madrid are reportedly interested.

Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid?

According to German journalist Christian Falk, a move to the Bernabeu “is coming to fruition” and the 25-year-old “is interested” in making “contact”.

Trent’s ‘interest’ isn’t too surprising given Real Madrid’s stature, although as we say, he certainly won’t be actively pushing to join the European champions this summer.
