What Eddie Howe wants Paul Mitchell to do at Newcastle United before July 28

What Eddie Howe wants Paul Mitchell to do at Newcastle United before July 28

Newcastle United are in Germany now but will head to Japan later this month.

Having also visited Australia at the end of the season, the Newcastle United squad are racking up plenty of air miles during 2024.

Eddie Howe and his players arrived in Germany this week to attend a training camp at Adidas headquarters.

Garang Kuol is in the Newcastle United squad, while Alexander Isak has also joined his Toon teammates.

Newcastle’s pre-season plans

It will be a big few days in Germany before they return to England for their first friendly of the summer. That’s against Hull City on July 27.

Once the game is over, Newcastle United will head to Japan. This is their main pre-season tour, much like last year’s trip to America.

The Magpies will play two friendlies in Japan as they prepare to face Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama F Marinos. Interestingly, the latter was managed by Harry Kewell, but he has now been sacked.

What Eddie Howe wants before Newcastle go to Japan

The plan is for Newcastle to travel to Japan immediately after their friendly against Hull City on July 27.

Eddie Howe and his players will arrive on July 28 and the Toon boss is hoping to have a stronger squad when they head to the Far East.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Eddie Howe would like Newcastle to make two signings before heading to Japan.

They claim Howe is keen for new signings to arrive soon, with Newcastle set to hold recruitment meetings in Germany this week.

Paul Mitchell’s first task at Newcastle is clear

Newcastle United’s new sporting director Paul Mitchell could have a busy couple of weeks ahead.

Eddie Howe is keen for him to make two new signings in the next 12 days, which is asking a lot.

Newcastle have a £100m transfer budget to spend, and Mitchell is tasked with bringing in a winger and a centre-back. A striker could also be on the cards, but that could depend on Callum Wilson’s future.

The top two positions are Newcastle’s priority, and it’s up to Mitchell to provide Howe with the players he needs. Howe wants reinforcements who can take Newcastle to the next level, so Mitchell’s target is clear.

The goal is for him to make two big signings in less than two weeks, which will be extremely challenging. No pressure, Paul…
