4 reasons for optimism despite Liverpool FC’s lack of transfer activity – Liverpool FC

Liverpool have not yet been an active participant in the summer transfer window, but that does not negate the optimism that must be growing ahead of the season opener.

It was a summer of changes, and of the most significant kind.

The club has welcomed a new head coach, coaching staff and hierarchy — although no new additions to the squad have been confirmed yet.

We’re all desperate to see the squad strengthened and that’s non-negotiable, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have room for optimism as we wait for a new name(s) to arrive.

Exhausted but unharmed

Nineteen players made international appearances over the summer, 14 participated in tournaments and, thankfully, none reported injuries.

This ensures that they can all start pre-season on schedule when the return date arrives, an incredibly important factor when you consider that most will have less than two weeks to prepare for the season opener.

They will still need to be managed properly as they have played an insane amount of football, but getting them acclimated is much better than having to adapt to a rehab schedule!

No player forgotten

The view since Arne Slot arrived is that he wants to analyse the available squad before making any transfer decisions.

It’s easy to forget that he doesn’t know these players as well as we do, and that he has his own priorities and characteristics that he wants to see before deciding one way or another.

At least we know that there is careful consideration being taken, that decisions are purposeful and intentional, not rash – it’s the difference between the big clubs and the not so big ones, and Manchester United are proof of that!

That doesn’t mean we’ll all agree with the final decisions, but every player will seemingly have a chance to impress before wish lists are reviewed and checkbooks start appearing.

This is still a talented team

“I don’t expect a clean sweep, but it’s not mine any more. There’s so much potential there,” Jurgen Klopp said at the end of last season. “The quality is still there, it can still develop, fantastic.”

Klopp intended to leave the club in a better position than he found it, and he certainly achieved that – especially with the squad.

Promising young players are emerging, veterans are still coming into their own, and players like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai will be better off after a year of experience.

Not to mention Slot and his staff will be looking to take them all to the next step that Klopp mentioned on the training ground.

A defender and a defensive midfielder are the priorities for most, and many would not say no to another attacking option, but we cannot lose sight of what already exists at the club.

The foundation is there, the club now needs to actively seek out players who will add competition and complement those already at Anfield.

Silence is not synonymous with inactivity

When the time comes for Liverpool to make moves in the transfer market, we shouldn’t be surprised if there’s a quiet build-up now that Michael Edwards is back overseeing the operation.

He works in the shadows, so to speak, and sporting director Richard Hughes will follow suit – we’ve been down this road before and it’s important to remember that silence does not mean inactivity.

Liverpool are in good hands, there is no need to make a fuss when chasing goals and in a way it is nice to have the element of surprise when one day we are linked and two days later a player is signed.

I hope it’s just a matter of time before this becomes a reality!
