Cardiff City news tonight with new top links emerging and starlet on track for new club

Here are the Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday 16th July.

New tip linked

Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento has been linked with Cardiff City.

The Bluebirds have already secured a new top player in Chris Willock, who arrived on a free transfer after rejecting a new deal at QPR.

However, it is understood that Cardiff are still keen to add in wide area, as well as, of course, a striker or two. And Ecuadorian outlet Tera Deportes claim that the Bluebirds have held talks over a loan move for Sarmiento.

The report adds that Ipswich, who he joined in the second half of last season and helped lead them to promotion to the Premier League, are also exploring the option of bringing him back, with Scottish club Aberdeen said to be preparing a bid this week.

The 22-year-old, who spent time in the academies of Charlton and Benfica before joining Brighton, scored twice for West Brom last season before netting three times for Ipswich after joining them in the January window. He has 21 caps for Ecuador and recently featured in the Copa America for them, losing in the quarter-finals to Argentina.

Adams on his way to Derby

Ebou Adams will finally seal his move to Derby County after Cardiff accepted the Rams’ offer.

Adams enjoyed a positive loan spell at Pride Park in the second half of last season, playing a crucial role in helping them get promoted from League One to the Championship. He also won the club’s goal of the season award for a standout strike against Blackpool.

He proved incredibly popular with Rams fans, who wanted him back permanently, a proposal Cardiff were open to. Derby tabled more than one offer before Cardiff finally accepted a six-figure bid. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

It is understood Adams travelled to Derby today and his breakthrough as a Rams player is imminent. He has played 13 times in an injury-hit spell with the Bluebirds and looked set to fight to break into a congested midfield next season.
