Foo Fighters play first Welsh show in 17 years

Foo Fighters fans attending the band’s Cardiff show on Tuesday have been advised to stay hydrated as the UK heats up.

The roof of the Principality Stadium was opened for the band’s first performance in the Welsh capital in 17 years.

Free water dispensers were available inside the arena as temperatures soared on the hottest day of the year so far in Wales.

The Everything or Nothing at All tour is the band’s first in the UK since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.

The 19-date, four-month tour coincides with the release of her 11th album But Here We Are, her sixth number one record.

They have already sold out stadiums in London, Manchester and Glasgow and, after playing in Cardiff, will head to Birmingham for the final date of their two-week UK stop.

The Principality Stadium show follows sold-out shows at the 70,000-capacity venue featuring other American superstars including Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen and Pink.

The stadium advised fans to “stay safe and hydrated while waiting in line due to potentially hot weather.”

“Once inside the stadium, there are free drinking fountains in all public concourses, which we encourage fans to use,” a spokesperson said.

“Extra water will be distributed at the barriers for those in the standing areas.”

Bottles were not allowed on the lower floor or in the standing areas of the venue.

“Collapsible bottles” were permitted on the intermediate and upper levels, but they had to be empty and the caps removed upon arrival.

There were free drinking fountains in all public areas of the stadium.

Additionally, extra water was distributed by the barriers to those in the standing areas.

Drivers have been advised to check the Traffic Wales website before setting off.

Fans were also warned about parking in restricted areas.

Transport for Wales and GWR have provided extra capacity on trains into and out of Cardiff wherever possible, but have warned that rail services in south Wales will be very busy.

Buses have been diverted due to road closures. Full details of Cardiff bus diversions can be found here.
