Leicester City secure the signing of Ghanaian international Abdul Fatawu – The Home of Irish Football

Leicester City have confirmed the permanent acquisition of winger Abdul Fatawu from Sporting Lisbon.

The 20-year-old Ghanaian international, who impressed during his loan spell last season, has signed a five-year deal with the Foxes.

Fatawu made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals, including a memorable hat-trick in a 5–0 win over Southampton.

Fatawu expressed his excitement over the permanent move, stating: “I feel amazing. It’s so good to be back and I’m back to focus again on next season. I feel very motivated to be in the Premier League.”

Born in Tamale, Ghana, Fatawu began his senior career with Steadfast FC before being loaned to Dreams FC in October 2021.

His performances led to a move to Sporting Lisbon in April 2022, where he made his professional debut against Rio Ave and featured in their UEFA Champions League campaign.

Internationally, Fatawu helped Ghana’s U-20 team win the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where he was named player of the tournament.

He has also represented Ghana at senior level 19 times, including appearances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Reflecting on his return to Leicester, Fatawu added: “I can’t wait to see (my teammates). I’ve missed them so much. They’re like family now.”
