‘I was honest’ – Brad Arthur sends message to Leeds Rhinos fans over uncertain future

Leeds Rhinos manager Brad Arthur has spoken about his future amid uncertainty over his future at the club.

Brad Arthur has signed a contract with the Rhinos until the end of the season and will look to secure a playoff spot for the team.

He looks like a good short-term signing, but with the club yet to secure a name beyond the end of the current season, questions have been raised over his long-term future.

Sporting director Ian Blease said he was in discussions with Arthur about a potential extension of his tenure beyond this season, but also clarified: “The long-term objective of securing the head coach is still ongoing.

“He admitted to me that, you know, he considers himself an NRL coach.

“We are still talking to other coaches.”

Arthur will take charge of his first Super League game on Saturday when Leeds Rhinos take on Hull KR at Headingley.

Now Brad Arthur, speaking at the pre-match press conference against the Robins, said: “I’ve been honest about it all along. I want to be a career coach in the NRL and I feel like I still have a bit of time and some unfinished business there.

“I’ve also always had a desire to at some point coach in the Super League, whether that’s towards the end of my NRL career or as is happening now.

“I don’t want to be dragged into the question of whether I’ll stay or not because I don’t know. I just know that I’ll do my best. I left my family at home so it shows that I’m committed to helping the club now.

“If I can do as much as I can to help the club progress for the rest of this year and next year and beyond, whether that’s with me or without me.”

He has already spoken about potential signings for next year, so it seems he is indeed thinking about staying beyond the current season.

For now, the focus is on Saturday’s clash with an in-form side fresh from their derby win against Hull FC.
