Mehrdad Ghodoussi makes emotional farewell to Newcastle United but leaves with emotional message

Outgoing Newcastle United director Mehrdad Ghodoussi has insisted the club remains in great hands despite a turbulent week on Tyneside.

Co-owner and his wife Amanda Staveley are leaving St James’ Park with their heads held high after an incredible transformation over the past three years. The couple have made Newcastle a community club again and have not just focused on the first team, they have also put the women’s team back on the map.

However, Ghodoussi says the club can now go on to achieve great things in both the Premier League and Europe. In an emotional farewell, the director said: “I just want to say a huge thank you to the fans and the city for embracing Amanda and I with such open arms.

“Your passion and support have made this journey truly unforgettable. You have played such an important role in our lives these past few years, and nothing will take away those memories.

“Newcastle will always have a special place in our hearts, and we will cherish our time there forever. I would like to thank Eddie Howe, the coaching staff, the players and of course our chairman, Yasir, and the PIF team, Jamie, and the rest of the Reuben family for being such great partners.

“I’ve finally seen all of your messages and I’m so grateful to each and every one of you. I will always be a supporter and proud member of the Toon Army. I will love and remember you all forever, and I know the club will continue to achieve great things with your incredible support.”
