Caoimhin Kelleher targets continued success as Liverpool enter new era under Arne Slot – The Home of Irish Football

Caoimhin Kelleher is preparing for his 10th season at Liverpool FC, expressing optimism and excitement about the season ahead.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who joined the club in 2015, is embracing the changes brought about by new coach Arne Slot and the appointment of Fabian Otte as head of first-team goalkeeping training.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Kelleher shared his positive impressions of the new leadership.

“It was very good, very enjoyable,” he said of working with Slot.

“Obviously the first few days were just testing and stuff like that, then we got into the actual training sessions, which have been really good. (Slot) has been excellent so far. Lots of detail about what he wants us to do, there are a lot of things to take on board, but he gets his messages across really well and he’s easy to understand as well, which is helpful. His sessions are intense and he pushes us, which is always good.”

The Republic of Ireland international, who made 26 appearances last season, highlighted the squad’s solid foundation and potential for further success.

“The structure of the team is still there and we want to move forward. It’s not a rebuild or anything like that, it’s just finding those little extra things that can hopefully push us and take us over the line to win some more trophies.”

Reflecting on his long journey at Liverpool, Kelleher highlighted his desire to keep moving forward.

“Obviously it’s been a long time since I came here when I was 16. Time flies, I’ve enjoyed every minute here, to be fair. I just want to try and keep going and continue on that upward trajectory. It’s been really enjoyable and I’m looking forward to moving forward.”

The transition in the goalkeeping department is another significant change for the Reds, with veteran coach John Achterberg leaving and Fabian Otte joining. Kelleher is optimistic about the new dynamic.

“It’s great that Fabian has come in now. He seems really good, really interesting, full of energy as well, which is good. And he probably brings some new ideas as well, which is interesting and good for goalkeepers to try, get different opinions on things.”
