Daily Schmankerl: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona to make Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich a priority?; Liverpool, Newcastle target Adrien Rabiot eyeing Madrid move; Manchester United pushing for Dani Olmo; Liverpool want Jeremie Frimpong; and MORE!

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona reportedly have two midfielders on their respective radars — Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte:

It is no secret that Barcelona are scouring the market far and wide for a new pivot midfielder this summer and seem to have settled on a few names as possible targets. The likes of Joshua Kimmich, Amadou Onana, and Mikel Merino feature at the top of the Blaugrana’s list for the summer, but other options are also being looked at.

As such, reports in France as relayed by Mundo Deportivo suggest that Barcelona are tracking PSG and Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The 23-year-old had been on the Catalans’ radars last summer as well but ended up joining PSG from Sporting CP in a deal worth €60 million.

After a season of adaptation in Luis Enrique’s side, the midfielder is currently performing well with the Uruguayan national team at the Copa America 2024. But Ugarte’s future in Paris has become a topic of debate in recent weeks with interest coming from the Premier League, where Manchester City are believed to be keen. Now, it is being claimed that Barcelona are keeping tabs on the midfielder as well and would be interested in signing him if he opts to leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer.

While Ugarte might be a player who is appreciated by Barcelona, a move for the 23-year-old looks unlikely this summer. PSG paid €60 million for the 23-year-old Uruguayan only last year and would likely seek a higher sum in the case of a sale – something that would be an issue for Barça. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, Barcelona have other players like Kimmich as their main priority to reinforce the midfield.

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot is drawing interest from Liverpool FC and Newcastle United, but wants to play for Real Madrid:

Liverpool, as well as Newcastle United, retain an interest in Adrien Rabiot following the expiry of his Juventus contract, but he is holding out for a move to Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz still can’t believe he is in the same locker room with Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sané, and Jamal Musiala.

“At first I was very excited, because these are players I only knew from the games on TV. From the first second they welcomed me very nicely. When Müller saw me he immediately said to me ‘Welcome Daniel’. You don’t realize where you are at all, but after a few days you realize that they are just human beings, amazing and nice people,” Peretz said. “The human side is something that the club puts emphasis on. As time goes by, the excitement decreases because they become your friends. It’s no longer like seeing someone you admire on the street.”

Pundit Graeme Souness thinks Gareth Southgate should drop Harry Kane for today’s EURO 2024 finale between England and Spain:

Graeme Souness has urged Gareth Southgate to drop England captain and record goalscorer Harry Kane for the Euro 2024 final against Spain.

“Gareth Southgate faces the biggest football decision of his life on Saturday: whether to drop Harry Kane,’ Souness told the Daily Mail. “If he gets it right, it is a decision that will make Gareth a national hero and, on current evidence, I’d say you have to leave Harry out. I’ve been one of Harry’s greatest supporters. He is a fantastic goalscorer, who has shown terrific ability at Tottenham, Bayern Munich and for England but this tournament he has looked like he is towing a caravan around the football pitch.

“The introduction of Ollie Watkins against the Netherlands enlivened the team. Park the fact he scored a wonderful goal, his contribution changed England as an attacking threat. Gareth has been fiercely loyal to Harry, often with good reason as he has been a matchwinner on many occasions, and as I’ve said before I wouldn’t like to begin to second guess what England’s manager does next, but he has to seriously consider this change.”

There is no way Gareth Southgate will drop Harry Kane…no way. Get Souness a job on First Take!
