Chris Davies sheds light on injuries to Krystian Bielik, Siriki Dembele and Tyler Roberts

Chris Davies is thrilled that Krystian Bielik has committed his future to Birmingham City by signing a new contract.

Bielik has signed a new three-year contract with the Blues to end speculation he could jump ship following the club’s relegation to League One. Davies is now keen to get Bielik into his starting line-up after the Pole was forced to miss the 5-0 friendly defeat to SC Paderborn 07.

“As I said when I arrived, I want to keep the best players and move on from the players I don’t think are right for this club, and then bring in the ones I think can add to us,” Davies said. “Krystian signing a new contract is like signing a new player essentially. Keeping him here and for him to commit to what we’re doing and what I’m doing is really important and he’ll be a key player going forward.”

Bielik was one of three veteran players who watched from the sidelines at Thiersee on Saturday as the Blues ended their Austrian training camp with a punishing defeat. Forwards Siriki Dembele and Tyler Roberts also missed the match.

Explaining his absences, Davies said: “Krystian has a recurring problem from the summer but he’s not too far away. Dembele and Tyler Roberts picked up minor knocks in pre-season but they’re pretty much back in full training next week.”

Dembele faces intense competition for a place in the Blues’ attack following the arrival of Emil Hansson in the summer. Keshi Anderson will also fancy his chances of taking over that spot in Davies’ side, having finished last season strongly.
