Switchbacks FC hits the road for Birmingham Legion FC

BIRMINGHAM, AL. (KKTV) – The Switchbacks took an early lead in Birmingham tonight, but were unable to capitalize and left the game with a 1-2 score in favor of the home team.

The Switchbacks got the momentum going early in the evening when #10 Zach Zandi received a pass through the center from #8 Jonas Fjeldberg. Zandi nearly lost his balance as the Birmingham goalie went to make the save, but he managed to keep his head and foot to kick the ball past #18 Trevor Spangenberg and straight into the center of the Legion net.

With over 55% possession in the first half, it looked like COS would go into the break holding the lead, but Birmingham managed to equalise with a rebound in injury time. The Switchbacks would go on to have eight more strong shots in the second half, but in the 85th minute Birmingham took the lead with another rebound shot. COS would fight hard for the next fifteen minutes, but the score remained the same, ending the night with a 2-1 victory for Birmingham.

The Switchbacks are undefeated in eleven of their last thirteen games and sit in fifth place in the Western Conference. They will remain on the road for their next match against Louisville City FC on July 19. Join us on July 26 when the team will be back at Weidner Field for Christmas in July as they battle the Las Vegas Lights.
