Cesc Fabregas set to sign two former Liverpool stars in eye-catching transfer

Cesc Fabregas, the former Arsenal and Chelsea star who is now a minority shareholder in Como 1907, is set to sign two ex-Liverpool players for the newly promoted Serie A side.

The Italian side are looking to significantly strengthen their squad ahead of their first season in Italy’s top flight in over two decades. Fabregas, who ended his playing career at Como, briefly took on the role of caretaker manager last season before handing the reins to Osian Roberts due to him not having a UEFA Pro coaching licence.

However, he has remained in an assistant role and is expected to take over as manager this summer once he has the necessary qualifications. Under the guidance of Roberts and Fabregas, Como secured automatic promotion last season by finishing second in Serie B on the final day of the season.

They are now working to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. Reports suggest Como are hopeful of signing Raphael Varane following his departure from Manchester United. They are also close to securing deals for Marseille goalkeeper Pau Lopez and Real Betis’ Rodri Sanchez.

Additionally, there are rumours linking them with a move for former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, whose contract at Old Trafford has also come to an end, reports the Liverpool Echo.

However, the former Manchester United duo aren’t the only high-profile free transfer on the horizon. Fabregas is set to make a number of moves for Como this summer, with reports (via Football Italia ) suggesting he is close to signing former Liverpool duo Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno.

The Spanish duo have been playing together at Villarreal for the past two seasons, but both left the La Liga side when their contracts expired this summer. Now, both players have agreed to move to Como on free transfers, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that they will each sign one-year contracts with the Italian side.

Reina made his transfer from Villarreal to Liverpool in a £6 million deal in July 2005, and made 394 appearances during his eight-season spell with the Reds. He was loaned to Napoli in the summer of 2014, getting his first taste of Serie A football, before making a permanent move to Bayern Munich in August 2014.
