Joe Rodon sent Tottenham transfer message after Leeds United loan

Joe Rodon has been told why he may want to return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer after spending the season at Leeds United.

United signed Rodon on loan from Spurs last year and the central defender played a key role in helping the club challenge for automatic promotion to the Premier League. Leeds are third in the Championship table and two points behind second-placed Ipswich Town.

Leicester City are currently top of the Championship and favourites to secure automatic promotion. Leeds face Middlesbrough on Monday night in the first of their final three league games.

Rodon has made 44 appearances for Leeds this season across all competitions and has been at the heart of the club’s defence alongside central defensive partner Ethan Ampadu. It remains to be seen whether Leeds will attempt to make Rodon’s signing permanent in the summer, with it not yet known which division the club will play their football in.

Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has explained why it will not be an easy decision for Rodon this summer as he reflects on his future. Hutton believes Rodon’s primary ambition will be to return to north London and be a success.

“I think from Rodon’s point of view he will always want to come back,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“His initial thought would be to go to Leeds, play week in, week out, do well and go back to his parent club because that’s the club he would like to play for.

“It will depend on him and what he wants to do in the future going forward. He will need to discuss with both clubs to see whether Tottenham see his future there or not and whether they are willing to sell, is that a factor in whether Leeds go up or not?

“For the player, does he want to play in the Championship again if they don’t make it or does he see himself as a Premier League player? There are a lot of ifs, buts and maybes thrown in there but he’s done really well.”
